Overview

New Features

The following new features are available in Release 9.

Events

In Release 9, we introduced a brand new feature called Events. An event represents any important happening, whether it occurs within or outside your organization. It has a defined start and end date. Events can include sports matches, congresses, announcements, or any other significant occurrence. Unlike content items, events are not intended for delivery to destination channels. However, they share many functionalities with content items. For example, you can associate a conversation with an event, assign tasks to an event, and even assign references, similar to what is already supported for content items.

Events overview

Events are accessible from a new main menu item called "Events":

Events in Release 9 are designed to have both a start and end date, allowing you to track important happenings within or outside your organization. Similar to assigning an owner to a content item, participants can be assigned to events. Multiple user accounts can be assigned as participants in an event. From the overview, you can create, delete, or duplicate events with ease.

Event details

In the details view of an event, you can edit various aspects of the event. This includes specifying the start and end dates, managing the participants, and adding the event to a collection.

Collections

Collections can now contain both events and content items, providing a more versatile way to organize your information. As a result, the details view of a collection has been redesigned to accommodate both types of items. In this view, you can easily add or remove content items and events, each displayed in its tabbed view. This enhancement allows for seamless management of your collection, giving you greater control over your content and events.

Calendar

Events are seamlessly integrated into the calendar, allowing you to view and manage both content items and events in one place. Event cards are easily distinguishable by their italic font, making it effortless to identify them. You can perform various actions on events directly from the calendar, such as viewing, editing, deleting, and duplicating, just as you would with content items. The calendar also provides the option to filter and search for specific events or content items, giving you full control and flexibility in managing your schedule.

Planner

Events are displayed in the planner, utilizing the start and end dates specified for each event. From the planner, you can conveniently open, edit, delete, and duplicate events. Additionally, events are presented as part of the collection they are associated with.

Task Progress Indicator

A new indicator is now available to show the number of tasks assigned to a content item or event and to represent the overall progress of these tasks. This indicator provides visual cues to help you quickly understand the status of the tasks. The indicator will display a green checkmark when all tasks have been completed. If one or more tasks have been started but not yet completed, the indicator will show a semi-blue circle. If none of the tasks have been started, the indicator will appear as an open circle. You can find this indicator in both the overviews and detail views, making it easy to stay informed about the progress of your tasks.

Engatta as PWA

Engatta is now compatible with Progressive Web App (PWA) and can be easily installed on Chrome. To install Engatta as a PWA, look for the Install option in the address bar of your Engatta environment. You can see the exact location of the Install option in the screenshot below, highlighted by the red rectangle. This feature allows for a seamless and convenient experience while using Engatta on your Desktop.

On Windows, when Engatta is installed as PWA it will be available in the taskbar:

When Engatta is opened as a Progressive Web App (PWA), it will open in a separate window specifically for Engatta. This window will not display the address bar, toolbar, or any other browser elements. This provides a focused and streamlined experience for users while using Engatta on their desktops.

Software Updates

In Release 9, we have made significant updates to the libraries and applications used by Engatta. Regularly updating this software is crucial for maintaining security and taking advantage of the latest features it offers. Here's a summary of the key updates we have implemented:

    • Java 21 - Java 21 has been available as an LTS release since September 2023. Engatta now runs on Java 21. This upgrade ensures optimal security and allows Engatta to take advantage of the newest features offered by Java.
    • FusionAuth 1.47.1 - Engatta utilizes FusionAuth as its authentication and authorization platform for managing and authenticating users. To ensure maximum security, we have upgraded the FusionAuth server to the latest available version. This upgrade enhances the overall security of Engatta and allows us to take advantage of the newest features and advancements offered by FusionAuth.
    • Vaadin 24.2.1 - Vaadin serves as the design system for Engatta's user interface, offering a range of web components that enhance the overall user experience. As newer versions of Vaadin are released, they bring along with them an array of new and improved UI components. It is crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest version of Vaadin to ensure that Engatta continues to provide a cutting-edge and visually appealing interface for users.
    • Mongo 7 - MongoDB is the non-relational database used to store all content in Engatta. The latest version, Mongo 7, was released in August 2023. We have updated the Engatta Mongo clusters to run on Mongo 7, enabling us to take advantage of the newest features and enhancements offered by MongoDB. This update ensures optimal performance and efficiency in managing and accessing content within Engatta.

UX improvements

In Release 9 the look and feel of several UI components have been improved:

    • Notification colours - To improve visibility and highlight important information in the in-context view, we have updated the colour of the notification dot for uncompleted tasks assigned to you from grey to red. This change makes it easier for you to identify tasks that require your attention. The same colour change also applies to the notification dot for new comments in the in-context view of conversations. This enhancement ensures that you don't miss any crucial updates or conversations related to your tasks.
    • New channel icons - Channel icons have been updated to ensure consistency and enhance the overall user experience.
    • Task cards - The task cards on the taskboard no longer show their state using a coloured bar on the left side of the card. This duplication of information has been removed since the task is already displayed in a column that indicates the same status.
