Release 8

New account, Who Dis?

Engatta Release 8, Oct 23, 2023

Account Activation, Forgot Password, Deleting accounts, Links in conversations and many other improvements and bugfixes.

Overview

New Features

The following new features are available in Release 8.

Account Activation

In previous releases, when a System Administrator created an account, a temporary password was generated which could be used for the first login. As of Release 8, the email address field of a new account is a required field. The email address is used to send an activation link to the user after an account has been created. The activation link in that email opens a form to set a password for the account. The link is valid for 5 days.

Forgot password

When a user forgets the password, a System Administrator could use the "Reset Password" option in Engatta to create a new temporary password. As of Release 8, the user itself can request a new password by using the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen. The user will receive an email with a password reset link. The link is valid for 1 hour.

Delete accounts

It is now possible to delete accounts from the Accounts overview or Account details view. Deleting an account will remove the account from the accounts overview and the account can no longer be selected as owner of an item or as assignee of a task. However, when an account is already the owner of an item or assignee of a task, this is unaffected after deleting that account. The account name however will be postfixed with "Deleted" to indicate that the account no longer exists. The account will also still be available as facet value in faceted search, making it easy to find all tasks assigned to a deleted account.

Links in conversations

Links can now be used in conversations. As soon as a URL is used in a conversation message, the URL will be detected automatically and shown as a clickable link in the conversation.

Loading indicator

In most situations, this new feature should not be visible at all. But if for whatever reason your connection to the Engatta application is slow, a loading indicator may appear to indicate that the system is busy.

Planner marker interaction

The purple markers on the group row in the planner are now clickable. When the marker is clicked, the group will expand and scroll down to ensure that the content item for which the marker indicates the publication date is in view.

Beta Features

The features below are introduced in Release 8 as Beta features. A Beta feature can be activated by the Engatta support team. If you would like to activate it, please contact support.

LinkedIn Import

The LinkedIn import facilitates importing LinkedIn posts as content items in Engatta. The import must be configured to be authorized for your LinkedIn account. Whenever a new post is available on the LinkedIn account, a corresponding content item in Engatta is created automatically.

RSS Import

The RSS import facilitates importing RSS items from one or more RSS feeds as content items in Engatta. Only a list of RSS feed URLs is needed to configure this import. The import will automatically create a channel and content type corresponding to the items in the feed. To identify a channel corresponding to an RSS feed, a new field "URL" has been added to the details of a channel.

Minor changes

Several other minor changes and improvements have been added to Release 8:

    • Search in Taskboard - A free text search is now also available on the taskboard.
    • Clear default filter - An additional option "Clear default filter" has been added to the manage filters dialog. This option will unset a filter currently selected as the default filter.
    • Calendar card owner - The user avatars shown in cards on the calendar have been changed. In previous releases, an avatar was shown for each user that had a related uncompleted task assigned. Since this release, these avatars have been replaced by a single avatar of the user that is assigned as the owner of the content item.
    • More category colours - The number of colours that can be selected in a collection category has been increased from 6 to 18.
    • Prevent the need to clear browser cache after update - In previous releases the browser cache needed to be cleared when a new Engatta release was installed. As of this release, this is no longer needed.

UX improvements

In Release 8 the look and feel of several UI components have been improved:

    • Overall styling - The styling of many components has been improved. This applies for example to the main menu, links in overviews, the Engatta logo and the login screen.
    • Consistent Tooltip styling - All tooltips used in the Engatta application are updated for consistent styling.
    • Sticky overview headers - The header rows in overviews have been made sticky, such that the header is still visible when scrolling down the results.

Performance

In each release, we pay specific attention to overall performance. Usually, this results in specific improvements. In this release the following improvements were made:

    • Broken images - When content items in the calendar contain broken images, this could slow down the loading of the calendar. In this release, broken images are cached, which results in a much faster loading of these cards in the calendar.
    • Asset browser caching - Since calendar cards show the lead image of the content item, the calendar shows a lot of static images. In previous releases, these images were downloaded from the server each time the calendar was opened. In this release, these images are cached by the browser, which prevents the need to download them from the server over and over again.
